A global total column ozone climate data record

چکیده

Abstract. Total column ozone (TCO) data from multiple satellite-based instruments have been combined to create a single near-global daily time series of fields at 1.25? longitude by 1? latitude spanning the period 31 October 1978 December 2016. Comparisons against TCO measurements ground-based Dobson and Brewer spectrophotometer networks are used remove offsets drifts between subset measurements. The corrected is then as basis for homogenizing remaining sets. construction this database improves on earlier versions maintained first National Institute Water Atmospheric Research (NIWA) now Bodeker Scientific (BS), referred NIWA-BS database. intention serve climate record TCO, end, requirements constructing records, detailed GCOS (the Global Climate Observing System), followed closely possible. This new version includes wider range instruments, uses updated sources satellite data, extends covered, improved statistical methods model difference when sets, and, perhaps most importantly, robustly tracks uncertainties source sets through final which accompanied associated uncertainty fields. Furthermore, gap-free (referred BS-filled database) has created documented in paper. utility demonstrated an analysis trends November Both databases freely available non-commercial purposes: DOI https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.1346424 (Bodeker et al., 2018) https://zenodo.org/record/1346424. https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.3908787 2020) https://zenodo.org/record/3908787. Spatial variation of total column ozone on a global scale

The spatial dependence of total column ozone varies strongly with latitude, so that homogeneous models (invariant to all rotations) are clearly unsuitable. However, an assumption of axial symmetry, which means that the process model is invariant to rotations about the Earth’s axis, is much more plausible and considerably simplifies the modeling. Using TOMS (Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer) mea...

Comparing OMI-TOMS and OMI-DOAS total ozone column data

[1] The Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) project team uses two total ozone retrieval algorithms in order to maintain the long-term record established with Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer (TOMS) data as well as to improve the ozone column estimate using the hyperspectral capability of OMI. The purpose of this study is to assess where the algorithms produce comparable results and where the diff...

Evaluation of ozone total column measurements by the Ozone Monitoring Instrument using a data assimilation system

[1] On 15 July 2004, the Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) on board the EOS Aura mission was launched. One of OMI’s priorities is to continue the record of high spatial resolution ozone total column measurements provided by the various Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer (TOMS) instruments since 1978. To this end, it is essential to estimate the errors affecting OMI ozone total column measurements...

An Eight-year Record of Ozone Profiles and Tropospheric Column Ozone from Global Ozone Monitoring Experiment (gome)

This paper presents an eight-year record (July 1995June 2003) of ozone profiles and tropospheric column ozone (TCO) retrieved from GOME ultraviolet radiance spectra using the optimal estimation technique, including detailed treatments of wavelength and radiometric calibrations and forward radiative transfer modeling. The agreement with Stratospheric Aerosol and Gas Experiment (SAGE) data is usu...

Monitoring of Sciamachy Total Column Ozone Using the Dao Ozone Data Asssimilation System

The total column ozone data from SCIAMACHY were monitored in the ozone data assimilation system at NASA’s Data Assimilation office (DAO). The ozone data from NOAA−16 Solar Backscatter UltraViolet/2 (SBUV/2) instrument are assimilated in the DAO’s system. The monitoring consists of computing the differences between SCIAMACHY observations and the ozone system forecast, i.e. observed−minus−forecas...
